Our administrator, Dr. Alessio Testa, has been honored by the Italian Geological Society with the 2025 Award for the Best Scientific Publication in Structural Geology. The recognition was granted for the article “Paleoseismological constraints on the Anghiari normal fault (Northern Apennines, Italy) and potential implications for the activity of the Altotiberina low‐angle normal fault” (2023), published in Tectonics (42, e2023TC007798. https://doi.org/10.1029/2023TC007798). The paper was co-authored with P. Boncio, S. Baize, F. Mirabella, S. Pucci, B. Pace, M. Riesner, C. Pauselli, M. Ercoli, L. Benedetti, A. Di Chiara, and R. Civico.
The awarded paper, published in Tectonics, sheds new light on the seismic potential of faults in the Upper Tiber Valley. The study documents seven paleo-earthquakes in the last 25,000 years and provides crucial insights into the debated role of low-angle normal faults in central Italy. This research was also carried out in the framework of fault displacement hazard studies for the Montedoglio Dam (Tuscany, Italy).
